Stephen Fite Concert

We had a great time at the Stephen Fite concert yesterday! The children had a great time singing all the songs and  dancing along to the tunes! Everyone was definitely tired after it was over. It was a quiet bus ride home! ;)

November 20, 2014 News

Hello Families!! This week has flown by! We had a wonderful time at the concert yesterday and I have an exciting day planned for us today. Remember that we have early dismissal today at 11:50! Next week is our Thanksgiving break! We will start back to school with normal hours on Monday, December 1st! I hope everyone has a fun break!! Make lots of memories!!

Take a look at our newsletter for the week! We have a busy month ahead of us! When we get back to school we will begin our Christmas Around the World unit in Social Studies! I am trying to set up some interactive chats for us to be apart of and I even have passports for every child so that we can document the countries we "visit"! I hope to make this unit very fun and memorable for my students!

Also, I added a wish list to the newsletter this week. If you would like to donate one of those items to our class we would appreciate it so much! :)

Thanks for all you do!

See you all in December!

October 7, 2014 News

Hello Families!! We've had another great week at school! I can't believe we only have 2 weeks left until our Fall Break! Time sure does fly when your busy learning and having fun!!

Next week we will be super busy preparing for our Thanksgiving Feast! We invite you to join us for lunch on Thursday, November 13, 2014 @ 11:20 AM in the CES cafeteria! We will wear our Native American costumes to lunch so be sure to have your cameras ready!!

Also, just a side note, I will not be at school on Monday, November 10th. I will be in Austin at their Google facility planning lessons that integrate technology!! I'M SO EXCITED TOO! I hardly ever miss school with my students, but this was a wonderful opportunity that I just couldn't pass up! Only 30 teachers were chosen in Texas to be apart of this amazing planning session! I feel very honored that I get to go! :) Our student teacher, Ms. Zachariah, along with a substitute will be with the children. I can't wait to share my experience with them when I get back to school on Tuesday!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Creating with Aurasma

We've been using the Aurasma app in centers since the 3rd week of school! The children absolutely love it! It makes their tangible world come to life with the use of augmented reality! An example of this is: our alphabet cards, when scanned with the app, become animated! They have fun songs and videos that are played too just from scanning a card!

Aurasma mixes the real world with the virtual world and takes learning to a whole new level!

Today we used Aurasma to create our own auras! Each child drew a picture of a family rule that they follow at home. Instead of having the children explain their picture to me, I helped them record themselves telling me about the rule. Then we used Aurasma to create a trigger image for the video! The trigger image we used was their drawing of their family rule! It was something unique that when scanned will only pull up their video! Once we had the overlay (the video) and the trigger image (their picture) we named the aura and BAM! They created their first Aurasma!

They were amazed at their creation! Each group kept saying how "cool" it was! :)

I'm going to hang their pictures up for a few weeks, but I will be sure to send instructions on how to view their aura when their picture comes home!

I love experiencing new things with my digital learners!

White T-Shirts

Hi families!! I know this is short notice, but since our Thanksgiving Feast is next week (usually we have it the Thursday before our fall break), I will need to collect white t-shirts for our Native American costumes by this Friday. I will need to dye and cut them over the weekend!

Please send an adult size white shirt for your child to school by Friday, November 7th. If you would like to purchase or donate any extra shirts we would greatly appreciate it! We may be in need of a few extras! :)

Thank you for all your support and again, I apologize for the short notice!

Here is the note I sent home in folders today:
