Grinch & Chatting with Santa

Today we listened to a read aloud of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! After listening to the story, we made our own Grinch! They turned out so cute!

Later in the afternoon, we participated in a live chat with Santa!! Many school districts from around the country were able to ask Santa questions! Amazingly, Santa answered on of our questions: How many elves work at the North Pole? I couldn't hear his exact answer, but he said something around 17,000! Wow! That's a lot!

We had a fantastic Monday!

December 5, 2014 News

Good afternoon families!! We've had a great week back at school! We started our Christmas Around the World unit and learned about several countries including Poland, Ukraine, and the Netherlands! The children have really enjoyed learning about how others celebrate Christmas/ Holidays!

Here is our newsletter for the week! Remember to send $3.00 for our pizza party by Friday, December 12th. I will have to place the order early since many teachers will need pizza on the same day. Our Christmas Party will be on Friday, December 19th at 9:00 AM! We will have lots of fun activities and crafts to do during our party! Also, please send the green party form back to school by Monday so that I can start calling everyone for the party items!

Thanks for all your help and support! I truly have the best families ever!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Tweeting and Google Forms

We've been tweeting so much this week! The children tweeted Cari Sturch (Sturchie) and Heathet Kilgore and asked them their favorite Christmas traditions. We also tweeted pictures of the many activities we did throughout the week!

Each day this week we completed our weather observation Google form. We complete it on the board together and then we get to see the data collected in the form of a graph! We will continue doing this over the next several weeks! This is a great way for us to record the weather and keep up with and analyze the data!

The children really enjoy tweeting! They have come to realize that sharing what we are learning is a great way to get others involved! People are always complementing is on the awesome things we have going on in our classroom! I couldn't do that without such wonderful students that are willing to try new and innovative ways to learn!

Yesterday we flew to Ukraine using Google earth!! We learned about how the spiders spun cobwebs on the Christmas trees in the homes of Ukraine families. On Christmas morning the sunlight turned the cobwebs into silver tinsel! The children really enjoyed the story and even more they love making their own spiderwebs. Using craft sticks and yarn they spun their very own web to hang up on our Christmas tree!! It was such a fun activity!!

Pic Collage and AR Flashcards

Today we used the PicCollage app to show pictures and words that describe our favorite season! The children enjoyed getting to look for pictures on the Internet! Everyone chose different pictures too! The project was very individualized and they got to pick the pictures thru wanted! As they picked the pictures they told reasons why that season was their favorite! I'm so proud of my creative kiddos!!

We also used the AR Flashcards app!! It is an interactive and entertaining augmented reality app. It uses printed alphabet cards, that when paired with the iPad, pull up a rendered 3D animal! The children can then touch the animal to hear the letter and animal name!

AR Flashcards make learning the alphabet fun with technology!

Christmas Around the World

Yesterday we started our Christmas Around the World unit with Poland!! We flew from Commerce to Poland using Google Earth! The kids loved it! They kept asking if I could take them on a real plane ride!! Haha!

During centers we made a Poland chain ornament and Ms. Zachariah hung it around our classroom door!

We also started our passports! We will use them to document our journey around the world during this fun and engaging social studies unit! I'm almost done taking passport pictures!

Tomorrow we fly to Ukraine!! I can't wait to see all the fun the students will have in the upcoming weeks!!
