Here is our newsletter for the week! Although this week has been crazy due to the weather, we got a lot accomplished at school yesterday and today! The children are super busy with Open House things so do not be alarmed if the folders are bare! We are having a great time learning about our great state of Texas!! We can't wait for you to see all of our hard work at Open House on Tuesday, March 10th from 5:30-6:30!

Remember to send your child's Texas Animal Research Project with them to school on Monday, March 2nd. We will need them by then to complete a digital portion of the project on our iPads! I've already received over half of them and they look great!! I can't wait to see the rest!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Planetarium and Constellations

Yesterday we visited the TAMU-C planetarium!! The children had a great time learning about the moon, sun, and stars. I think their favorite part was seeing different constellations in the night sky!!

When we got back to school we used the Go Sky Watch app on the iPads to explore all the different constellations.

Today we made our very own constellations by using yellow paint for the stars and then used a white crayon to connect the dots or "stars" to make a picture!! They had so much fun!!

Texas Animal Research Project

Today I sent home a note about our Texas Animal Research Project along with the manila and lined paper to complete this fun assignment.!! This is an activity that you will complete with your child at home. I want you to use all the imagination and creativity that you'd like. When creating the picture of the Texas animal, your child can use pictures from magazines or ones found online. Your child can also use markers or crayons to draw a picture of their animal. Please have them include details in their pictures (such as where/ what type of home animal may live in or have). I would like the facts to be written by your child in pencil. Please have them include their name on the lined paper. (They usually write their name at the bottom of the paper at school.) The only restrictions I have is that they use the paper I provided. Although we would love for the students to do them on poster boards, we are limited on space. :) We will hang these up in the hallway for Open House, so be sure to have your child do their very best! If you have any questions about the project please do not hesitate to contact me. I want this to be a fun and education project! I will let them share their project with their peers on Monday, March 2nd! After we share them, we will include a technology piece with the project that will make their animal come to life! This will be done at school the week before Open House!!

I can't wait to see their finished projects! Have lots of fun and get creative!!

Reading Rockstars

This week, the children went on a word hunt around the school!! There were several index cards with different words posted in each hallway. The children took their iPads with us on the word hunt and took a picture of each word they could read! I enjoyed hearing them sound the words out! They pushed themselves to read every word they found! After we took pictures, we went back to the classroom and each student made their own PicCollage out of the words they found. The children used airdrop to turn their PicCollage in to me and then came to my teacher table to reread the words!

TCEA 2015

As most of you know, I was out of town most of last week for a technology convention. I was one of two teachers chosen from CES to attend TCEA in Austin! This was my second year going to TCEA. It is such a fun conference filled with lots of learning about new and innovative educational technology. I got to meet some awesome people that I've been following on Twitter too! While learning and attending sessions, Region 10 educators got to participate in a "selfie challenge"! I had a great time meeting new people and networking with other teachers and administrators!

During my few days there, I learned about several new tools to bring to the classroom. I also found new ways to use some of the existing technology and apps that we already have! I'm already working on a new Donor's Choose Project for some awesome technology for the classroom! Can't wait to share all these wonderful things with my little explorers!
